Kinda funny to notice that Spike's feet were changing lengths during this scene. Though I'm no animation expert, stuff like that can be seen as a beginner's mistake, or it could be an instance of stretch and squash being used.
Lol @ tangents. The ear's outline is running into the outline of the ear. Visual tangents like that needs to be avoided for anyone who wants to trace this pic for some reason. The lower mane is also creating a similar tangent.
also, it's a shame that I have so many blinking screencaps... but I needed them only for background stuff. Besides, profile-view poses like this is hard to make anything decent with.

The gem appears to be drawn in an awkward perspective - it should be viewed at a more 3/4ths type of angle instead of being viewed from the front.
